Research Tools

Categorizing Information

As you take notes from your research, it can be helpful to sort passages and sources into categories based on argument or information. These categories can then help you structure the outline for your research project.

It is important to support points with multiple sources of information whenever possible rather than addressing each source one by one. Integrating the different sources with each other and your own argument is necessary to create a strong presentation of your case.

Synthesizing the Information

Synthesizing the information happens when you pull together everything you've learned from your resources and consider the topic, yourself. This is a complex skill and one that will become easier for you the more you practice it.
