Reserve Instructions

Books, videos, DVDs, and CDs from the library collection may be placed on Reserve to keep them from circulating during the time of your students’ need.  Materials from the library reference and periodical collections do not circulate, so these items are always available, and thus do not need to be placed on Reserve.

Personal items placed on Reserve are subject to possible theft or may become "missing."  Every effort is made by the library to prevent the loss of your items.  Students who report that an item has been lost will be charged by the library for the replacement cost of the item. To this end, we require that faculty attach a replacement value to their personal items.  When the student pays this replacement cost, the money will be returned to the faculty member by either the library or the Student Accounts office.  Please note that this will NOT occur until the student pays this charge, and that in some cases, this never happens.  The library is not responsible for lost item charges and faculty place items on Reserve at their own risk.

To place an item on Reserve:

1. Fill out the Reserve Tracking Slip:

2. ALL information must be filled in on the slip.  Missing information will result in a delay.  If you send a student to do this, please ensure that you give the student all the information required on the Tracking Slip.

3. Place the Reserve slip with the item and give it to a library staff member or student library aide.

4. Please note that the library needs 3-4 BUSINESS DAYS to process Reserve items. Personal items require that the items be entered into our computer system and this takes a fair amount of time.  For instance, if you bring an item to be put on Reserve on a Friday afternoon, the item would not be ready for checkout by students until the following Tuesday at the earliest.  Items brought to the library during the first week of school will take longer to process due to a high level of demand.  To ensure that your items are ready for the start of classes, please bring your items to the library BEFORE the start of the semester.

If you wish to use a Reserve item in class while it is still on Reserve, please ask for it at the desk and student aide will check the item out to you. If you wish to remove an item from Reserve, please inform a library staff member as it must be removed from the library system.
