Tips for searching HillCat:

  • Try different keyword combinations
  • Experiment with the Advanced search tab to combine ideas
  • To find works by an individual playwright, try a keyword search limited to "Author" using the playwright's name as your search term (e.g., Edward Albee), or an Author Browse search using the playwright's last name first (e.g., Albee, Edward)
  • To find works about an individual playwright, try a keyword search limited to "Subject" using the playwright's name as your search term (e.g., Harold Pinter), or an Author Browse search using the playwright's last name first (e.g., Pinter, Harold)
  • If you are searching for audio recordings, you can limit your search by choosing "Music CD" or "Musical Recording" from the formats listed in the "Limit by" box on the search screen
  • DVDs can be found by choosing "DVD" or "Videorecording" from the formats listed in the "Limit by" box on the search screen
  • The subject links in the right sidebar of the results page will help you find similar items
  • To browse our collection virtually, choose the call number option under the Browse tab.  The call number range for theatre and dance is 790.2-793.3, while the range for music, including dance music and librettos, is 780-789.  Works on drama as a literary form, as well as texts of individual plays, will be found in the literature range, 800-899.  Of particular interest might be American drama (numbers beginning with 812) and English drama (numbers beginning with 822)

  • Place interlibrary loan requests for items not held at our library

You can also search WorldCat from within our own catalog. When working in HillCat, select the "Search" tab and click on the "Select Databases" link underneath the search options. Check the box next to OLUCWorldCat (OCLC WorldCat) and "Set Search Options" to search both our collection and the WorldCat listings at one time.
