Postcolonial Literary Criticism

Welcome

Postcolonial literary criticism focuses on studying literature from the lens of postcolonial theory to examine issues of colonization, empire, decolonization, "othering," self, hybridity, and much more. This field of criticism considers a multitude of factors such as economic class, culture, race, gender, and religion to study the effects of the colonizers on the colonized.

This LibGuide serves as a starting point for understanding how to approach literature as a postcolonial critic. There is a collection of resources organized under the categories on the left, along with a list of books commonly studied in this field and a video explaining an example of postcolonial literary criticism research in its early stages.

Note: the abbreviation "po-co" is sometimes used in this field to refer to "postcolonial," and this abbreviation is used throughout this LibGuide.
