A Certified Public Accountant is a trusted financial advisor who helps individuals, businesses, and other organizations plan and reach their financial goals.   All CPAs are accountants, but not all accountants are CPAs

Another useful site is the Financial Accounting Standards Board that establishes financial accounting and reporting standards for public and private companies and not-for-profit organizations that follow Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
