St. Elizabeth Ann Seton

Vincent de Paul and  Louise de Marillac established the Daughters of Charity in 1633. The rule of these French Daughters of Charity was adopted by Elizabeth Seton for her community of Sisters in Emmitsburg. In 1850, the Emmitsburg community united with the community based in Paris. Although the other American Sisters of Charity did not join them, they still trace their roots to the Vincentian tradition.
