D&B Hoovers

D&B Hoovers allows you to create customized lists with the Build a List tool. While it's possible to create lists encompassing a variety of target elements (as shown in the image below), this feature is most useful for creating lists of Companies and/or Contacts.

To access this tool click "Search & Build a List" in the main navigation menu at the top of the screen, then select "Companies," "Contacts," or another category for your list. Whichever category you choose, you'll see a list of filter categories along the left side of the page, and you can use these to narrow your search and create a list that is as specific as you need it to be.

An example: If you want to create a list of air transportation companies in California that are using machine learning tools in their operations, you would select "Companies" from the "Search & Build a List drop-down menu, then use the following filters:

• Location - Type "California" in the "State or Province" box and select "California, United States."
• Industries - Use the "Browse" button to pull up a list of industries by NAICS code, then click the box next to NAICS code 481, "Air Transportation," under the broader "Transportation and Warehousing" category.
• Technology - Use the "Browse" button to open the list of Technology categories, then select "Machine Learning Software" under the broader "Artificial Intelligence" category.

Once you've set all your filters, click "View Results" to see your custom list. If you need to adjust the filters after reviewing your results, you can click the "Modify" button in the top left corner, then make your adjustments.

As noted on the "Desktop Overview & Search Options" page of this guide, these lists cannot be exported directly from D&B Hoovers. However, you can print pages from your list using the Print feature in your internet browser, or you can save the pages as PDF files using the Print menu.
